Chalet Toit du Monde, Val d’Isere, France

This is the second in my series on stunning winter chalets for Passepartout Homes, the go-to global site for luxury holiday accommodation and corporate retreats.

Of all the desirable French skiing locations, perhaps none is more iconic than Val D’Isere. With settlements dating back at least to the seventeenth century, and a key role in European skiing for the last 80 years, it has seen a period of rapid development. Though this in no way impacts on the pleasure of the resorts, it does mean that finding a truly exceptional, historic holiday stay is an achievement to celebrate. - See more at: http://www.passepartout-homes.com/blog/chalet-toit-du-monde-val-disere-france/#sthash.PVbdgWPx.dpuf

Fortunately, Chalet Toit du Monde is a stand-out property not simply in Val d’Isere but globally, with extraordinary facilities and innovative perks and comforts. The building, once a seventeenth century monastery, underwent a lengthy and scrupulous renovation and retains many of its most charming features, including the original hard-carved stone doorway.

It sleeps eightacross four magnificent suites, two of them split-level. All have en suite bedrooms with marble baths, which can be converted into hammams, a hugely welcome and thoughtful luxury after a vigorous day on the piste.

They are not the only spectacular spa or water feature, however. There is also a Russian fir sauna and an ingenious, hidden indoor/outdoor pool. Activated by a floor button, the red marble pool has adjustable depth and beautiful, highly atmospheric light features.

The pool is representative of a broader noteworthy feature of the property – it is high spec and high tech in a manner absolutely bespoke to enthusiasts for winter sports and luxury alike. So, in the ski room, the boot cupboard has individual boot heaters, and each bedroom suite has underfloor heating.

Chalet Toit du Monde, living room

The living room hosts another special surprise: a hidden home cinema system. Boasting Sky HD access on a giant screen, the cosy living room can be instantly converted into a private screening room for the latest releases. It’s perfect for families, whilst the striking crimson cigar room offers more adult pleasures. Equipped with an extractor and humidor, the cigar room offers astonishing mountain views to contemplate whilst unwinding with a fine Cohiba or Arturo Fuente and a bottle from the private wine cellar.

A cook is included who provides a hearty hot and cold breakfast, available in bed on request. A guest favourite is the afternoon high tea with delicious homemade cakes. Six nights a week, Champagne and canapés precede a four course feast, and a 24 hour food menu is also available if desired.

The dedicated Guests relations team are happy to make restaurant reservations, too. The choice of Val d’Isere restaurants is exceptional, including two Michelin-starred L’Atelier Edmond and La Table de l’Ours, which has also received Michelin recognition. La Peau de Vache has also had incredible word-of-mouth and is the perfect ski lunch spot.

For getting around, there is an extremely useful in-resort chauffeured vehicle and a private car port onsite for up to three vehicles too. Chambery, Lyon and Geneva are the nearest airports, and there is the option of a 30 to 45 minute helicopter transfer from all three. The helicopter landing pad is extremely close by.

The convenience and of the location is enhanced further by its proximity to two slopes catering to two different tastes and ability levels: the La Daille green slope for families and the World Cup downhill black slope for more seasoned skiers. Once all these amenities have been fully enjoyed, Chalet Toit du Monde is the perfect retreat to return to, to savour its unique blend of the very best of ancient and futuristic features.
