Mystery Map: Beasts of Britain

Mystery_Maps_Logo

One of the many great stories that Mystery Map will be covering tomorrow night is the sightings of Big Cats which have been entertaining Britons pretty much since giant sabre-toothed cats died out here, it seems.

The Mystery Map survey of Britain's views regarding the paranormal turned up swathes of interesting and surprising facts.

Do you think that the Beast of Bodmin moor exists?

Although only 8% of Brits believe specifically in the Beast of Bodmin Moor, a far greater percentage, 21%, believe that ‘other beasts or unexplained animals’ exist. The Bodmin Moor believers, interestingly, tend to be situated near where the Beast has been sighted, in the South West, and in general those surveyed in the region were more open to the idea of unexplained beasts or cryptozoology.

Regionally, Lancashire appears to lead the sceptics, with only 5% there believing in the Beast of Bodmin Moor.

Funnily enough, younger people are much less willing to buy into beasts too: with only 2% of 16-24 year olds believing in the Beast of Bodmin Moor. A far higher 12% of 35-44 year olds stated that they believe.

I would have conformed to that trend in my age bracket - I'm more than willing to believe that there's the occasional big cat prowling Britain's wild spaces.

In Mystery Map tomorrow night, Ben Shephard investigates the story of the Beast of Bodmin Moor and talks to some potential eyewitnesses. Bravely taking the investigation one step further, he even bunks in a customised hide to keep a night vigil for big cats.
