Women's Basketball at the London Olympics 2012

Olympics game

The always-brilliant Travel Belles were keen for me to cover the Olympics for them in a kind of ad hoc London correspondent role. It was just as well that I had crawled over broken lass to procure two tickets to a women's basketball game, between the USA and France, which turned out to be absolutely thrilling and very close run indeed. It was somewhat painful to come out of the experience £150 lighter, but at least it was money well-spent in terms of an unforgettable experience for my companion and older daughter, Estella, and a chance to experience the space age attractions of the Javelin train and the Olympic Park. Do read my full account of the adventure and take a nostalgia trip back to the summer of 2012.

Agree with all your observations. I too was cynical, but ended up with mounting olympic fever as the games progressed. In the end I managed to get paralympic athletic tickets for the last week in the olympic stadium. What an amazing evening! So well organised, so much to see .…and our mexican wave went flawlessly 3x round the stadium before they stopped us for a medal ceremony! Shows the power of 80000 people when they put their mind to it! Well done to all the athletes, paralympic athletes, team GB and all the volunteers. London we were amazing!!
